Growing out my hair shenanigans

Back in the spring, I got my hair cut short once again. I immediately regretted my decision. Thankfully, hair is a renewable source. Unfortunately, it doesn't grow fast enough!

Last time I had long hair was back in 2015. Ignore the bike, I was trying to teach my kid how to ride it LOL

Back when I was a kid, I remember getting this doll (after a quick Google search, I realized these dolls were called "Dolly Surprise") and I don't know what the hell I was thinking at that time because they are scary! There is a point to all of this because with these Dolly Surprise dolls, I was able to crank her arm and her hair would become shorter. If I cranked her other arm, the hair would grow long again! How I wish I could do this in real life!!!

Here is an advert I found on Youtube for these dolls. Yes, the dolls have badly crimped hair and not long after getting my doll, I begged my mom for a crimper for my birthday. I wanted crimped eighties hair too!!! This is an item I wish I kept because I wouldn't mind crimping sections of my hair.

Considering I miss my long locks, I thought it would be fun to chronicle the growing out process should I ever get the genius idea of going short again:
Notice the first picture on the left. Bad haircuts do happen. I like to tell my friends that I look like Johnny Depp in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory!!!

  2. Your hair looks beautiful both long and short but I understand the feeling of regretting a haircut and the pain of waiting for it to grow back out again.

I have a tendency of getting tired of my haircuts and back in 2014, I shaved half of it off (for the fifth time) in a sidecut, the rest of the hair was well below shoulder length. It was fun for a while but I'm lazy and don't have the discipline to keep it neat and shaved so just after a few months I started to grow it back out again.

Now I'm trying to get really long hair, the goal is below the belly button, but it's so boring not to do something creative and possibly stupid to it =P

  3. In defence of short hair, it is so much easier to look after! But having said that, I've had some horrible haircuts in my time. The type where you need to wear a bag over your head until it grows out again, lol!

    1. Hahaha! I am the opposite. Long hair was so much easier for me. Just tie in a ponytail and go!

  4. Looks good anyway. I really wish I could tolerate my hair long again, way back at school (1972ish) and the days of Alice Cooper I had my hair half way down my back, (you can imagine how well that went down with some of the teachers) but now as soon as it gets more than an inch it starts to drive me mad.

  5. My entire teenager phase is the story of bad haircuts! We didn't have money and learnt to cut the hair ourselves at home. Mum used to cut ours when we were kids, but then I became the best and did mum's, sister's and of course mine. Every time my teachers were giving me grief in school, my crush wouldn't notice me, bullies picked on me, any kind of life crisis - time for a style change. As my parents didn't let me use much makeup or dye my hair and we had no money to buy clothes for fun, I took it on my hair. The problem was that life crises happened more often than my hair could grow back. By the time I started university it was only a little longer than my dad's. When I had my most aggressive depression faze I wanted to start regaining control over my life and one way to visualize the progress was my hair. I dyed it a more pleasing colour and stopped cutting it. The first couple of times I had to cut the messy ends I felt like a failure even though they were really damaged and tangled! I still think twice before maintenance cuts: is it really necessary or is it my depression acting up again? Finally my hair became too heavy and I cut about half of it and regretted it immediately. I had got so used to people freaking out about sitting on my hair and then it was such a boring, unremarkable length! Nowadays I deal with the weight by doing massive layers from about 10cm to below my butt. I have both the crazy length and the volume/fun options from my short hair on top. I have to say I hesitated a lot before cutting it like that as well, but at least I haven't regretted it one bit. Good luck growing yours!

    1. I am happy that you now have achieved the look/cut you want. I hear you. I also went through several crazy depression phases. I cut my hair off and did a variety of other things.

  6. I've always regretted a bob cut... My hair is too wavy for that and it will never look sleek and cool lol. Hope it grows out quickly!

  7. Maybe my hair is just stubborn, but the whole myth of short hair being easier to deal with has never turned out true for me LOL I always needed styling products and a blow dryer to get my pixie/bob cuts to look good, whereas long hair can easily be put in a bun or pony.
Syl, have you looked into Biotin? It definitely helps, although it's no miracle cure. I've noticed as I get older, short haircuts take much longer to grow out than they used to, which makes me all the more paranoid about cutting it again!

    1. I never heard of Biotin. I looked into it and I take a multi-vitamin everyday. I noticed a huge difference with that. Thanks for the suggesiton

  8. Well I cut my bangs 2 weeks ago and already regret haha!
Other than that I am too saving for long hair again, not so much because I love long hair but more because it's damn expensive cutting a short and nice haircut at a hairdresser again and again. :'D

  9. I never cut my hair short. I like it long. I did rock bangs for like a year back when I was in high school though.
